The Saiyans are a true warrior race, don't underestimate us!
Why should I play this race? Who should play this race?
The Saiyan race have been elevated to mythological status in real life, nigga. Who the fuck doesn't know what a Saiyan is? Your neighbor knows what a Saiyan is. Your bus driver knows what a Saiyan is. That weird dude who sells crystals at a vape shop near your old high school has a tattoo of Goku on his arm.
To be mortally injured, to be gravely wounded, and to know defeat empowers the Saiyan to new heights, as long as they can just live. It's no wonder most of them never bothered with training - Their power exponentially increases just from the fight that they so enjoy. But this eventually has a limit. 'Zenkai', as they call it, can only go so far. So then what? A Saiyan who has exhausted all of the might available to him, become the pinnacle of their race, stronger than any in known history...
What can they do?
Besides transform.
At dawn, a new Saiyan form emerges, every time, to kick off what is known as an 'era' - like a shining beacon of Saiyan invincibility, a monument to genetic superiority, a proud display of tireless effort, a Super Saiyan form stands as the mightiest form at the beginning of any given era. In Super Saiyan era, Super Saiyan is nigh-unbeatable, a god-like state that grants unbelievable power, usually with drawbacks of varying intensity. The longer the 'era' drags on, however, the more and more Saiyans become able to circumvent these drawbacks - however, usually, in this timespan, other races have caught up to, or even surpassed this awesome might. So then what?
It's simple, fool.
As a Saiyan, yours is the the neverending story.
There is always another form just out of reach. There is always something, someone to surpass. An improvement you can make on an old technique. Your Saiyan blood drives you continually forward, to ever-greater heights, above and beyond anyone or anything - they can improve, but so can you.
Even the Gods are far from beyond your reach.
Okay, you've sold me, Blue. Now how do they work in this game?
I'm glad you asked, buddy ol' pal.
There are three "Classes" of Saiyan. The Low-Class, the Normal-Class, and the Elite. The Low-Class is highly defensive and has the lowest battle power, but displays the greatest comeback ability and innate desperation. The Elite has little need for such comeback potential, because they are highly dominant from the start of the fight, and on a deeper level, from the start of life, being that they are born with exponentially high power that other Saiyans can only dream of. Normal-Classes, the mundane, are the middle ground between both, their niche being that they lack as much speed, but boast the greatest all-around stats beyond that.
Each and every race within DBR have passives, dormant or otherwise, that greatly alter their fighting style, or simply grant tremendous boons in or out of combat. Saiyans? Saiyans have multiple potential passive paths, not restricted to any ol' one, that they can choose from, depending on what it is they believe in, and what they fight for.
All Saiyan Classes pick their own passives by selecting one of 3 paths: Proud, Royal(Elite-exclusive,) and Fool.
Fools are those who fight only for the sake of fighting. They relish the battle above all else, even their own lives. They're largely defensive in nature, trying to just enjoy the fight at their own tempo:
- After unlocking SSJ, Fools automatically queue a Heavy Strike every time they use either Afterimage Strike, Aerial Recovery, or Aerial Payback.
- Fools have lowered cooldown on Afterimage Strike, Aerial Recovery, Aerial Payback, and Wild Sense, scaling with ascension tier.
- Fools have the ability to taunt an opponent, which lowers both their own offense and the opponent's for a short duration. The extent of this debuff lowers based on Ascension Tier.
- Fools do more damage the longer a battle drags on, up to a cap. This resets after awhile of not striking back, and scales up with Ascension Tier. - Every 60 seconds, Fools get one proc of old Finale Precognition that then goes on cooldown afterward. They dodge one blast/beam for free.
- After seeing a technique that is on the skill tree, a Fool can buy it for slightly cheaper. Signature skills also cost them less RPP to buy.
- Fools have access to a support buff called "Saiyan Soul" that increases the damage they deal and lowers the damage they take for a limited duration before going on cooldown.
Proud Saiyans represent their race, and themselves. They enjoy the fight, perhaps even no less than a Fool, but there are other things they care about, other things at stake. The fate of their race, their renown, prestige - these thoughts and more are carried by the Proud into every battle. But you'd be a fool to think it slows them down, even for a second. They are the ones who can change everything:
- Proud Saiyans take slightly less damage when hit from the front, scaling up with Ascension Tier.
- Proud Saiyans can declare a rival and then fight better only against that rival.
- Proud Saiyans do slightly more damage based on how many people are on their screen(to a cap of 7,) scaling up with Ascension Tier.
- Every time a Proud Saiyan gets knocked back, they gain additional damage knockback on their next blow.
- Proud Saiyans have slightly reduced cooldown on Dragon Dash and Zanzoken, based on Ascension Tier.
- After Super Saiyan is unlocked, Proud Saiyans deal increased damage the lower their health is, capping at 10% health and the maximum bonus damage scaling up with Ascension Tier.
- Proud Saiyans are able to activate the support buff "Saiyan Spirit", giving them increased damage and powerup rate until the duration is over, afterward going on cooldown.
The Royal, the privileged, the seneschal of the Saiyan Race. Only those born into nobility bare these passives, unleashing a hyper-offensive onslaught that never lets up. Perhaps they, too, enjoy the fight - but it's harder to tell by the common rabble, because the Royal see themselves as above the rest of the Saiyan race, even if they are also proud of them. They fight to establish dominance, to establish supremacy. Behold the might of the King:
- After unlocking SSJ, successfully landing a Charge causes Rush, Blast, Zanzoken, and Heavy Strike to come off of cooldown.
- Royal Saiyans do more damage the higher their health is, up to a maximum of 100% health, scaling with Ascension Tier.
- Royal Saiyans have the ability to taunt an opponent, which lowers both their own defense and the opponent's for a short duration. The extent of the self-debuff lowers based on Ascension Tier.
- Royal Saiyans, upon using Wild Sense, knock back the target and fire a high volume of blasts. This effect can only occur once every 70 seconds.
- Royal Saiyans, when hitting an opponent with either 20% more or 20% less health than them, deal more damage, allowing them to either equalize or further a health gap.
- When angered, the next Charge a Royal Saiyan throws drags the target hurtling backward like Omega Blaster and then explodes, dealing 1.5x the damage of a normal charge.
- Royal Saiyans have a support buff called "Saiyan Savagery" that removes their attack delay, removes the cooldown on blast, and increases the amount of damage they deal for a limited duration before going on cooldown.
This is a lot of shit, Blue. Okay, so, what's my actual progression gonna look like, after I pick a passive path?
Their progression is relatively simple beyond this. At first, you get Zenkai. Zenkai is obtained one of two ways - through admin application, or by auto-unlock. Automation is something we're striving for these days, as admin approvals and being at the mercy of an admin team should never be the sole way to power. 24-72 hours after each Zenkai is unlocked by a Saiyan, other Saiyans are able to also unlock it by just training up to the BP requirement and being knocked out, Finale style. A little throwback for you.
Zenkai Ascensions grant stats, BP, energy, recovery, and sometimes anger. These bonuses change depending on which class you are(Low, Normal, Elite. Your passive choice has no effect here.)
Eventually, you reach your body's limit for zenkai, and when this happens, you're able to apply to unlock Super Saiyan. Super Saiyan forms, while you're in them, also each have unique passives to make being in them even more unique! When Super Saiyan is then unlocked, after 48 hours, it is automatically obtainable for any Saiyan who hits the BP requirement. Mastery, however, is obtained by admin approval - made gradually more lax as the wipe goes on. Super Saiyan mastery is also - here's another Finale throwback for you - leechable. So if someone is able to get approved for Super Saiyan mastery, they can teach others how to master Super Saiyan without any further admin intervention.
But here's the cool part.
Totally mastering any Super Saiyan Form grants you Full Power of the form, which means - you keep the multiplier in base. Super Saiyan, for example, is a 1.5x BP mult. After mastering it, you have a permanant Super Saiyan multiplier in base, making it easier to contest other races without having to transform, but your Super Saiyan transformation itself loses the inherent multiplier. Instead, it gains slightly more add and is wholly drainless.
Confused?
I'm sorry.
Think of it like this: When you master Super Saiyan forms, you get to keep some of the power of them in your base form. Also, just unlocking the Super Saiyan form makes you stronger, as well.
So you get stronger from Zenkai, then you get stronger than that by transforming, then you get even stronger than that by mastering and unlocking more and more forms. It's really simple, honestly. It's a very linear, but satisfying route. If you don't want to deal with admins or get admin approvals for your transformations, all you have to do is either wait for auto-unlocks(24-72 hours from the person who initially obtains it,) or maybe get some help from that person who did get admin approval.
Easy.
Saiyans are for people who like simplicity.
So, in closing.
If you're looking for a race that's simple, clean-cut, and honestly has the style and surprising substance only possible through decades of shameless marketing by corporate executives trying to sell shitty overpriced toys, Saiyans are your boys. They are rarely the strongest race in play, but they're also rarely weak. It's a good beginner race, and fun.
Stick around and I'll drop another post in this thread eventually for the IC guide.
Until then, later.
