“If you waste time fiddling with a new humanity and evolution, you'll never make it. Human strength lies in the ability to change yourself."
Why should I play this race? Who should play this race?
Humans are the weakest race in the game.
Period. There is no trick, there is no great secret, or hidden evolution. As a human, you simply have the absolute lowest possible strength of virtually anyone in a similar era. The sole redeeming feature of your race is access to very solid passives and a host of neat abilities. But uh..it really doesn't even come close to making up for the simply colossal gap in BP and even stats.
Every stat that a human has begins at 1, aside from their resistance, which remains lower than others - their Achilles' heel, so to speak. Humans are the easiest race to down with force-based abilities.
To go into the beginnings of my reworks and my balancing ideology, while I will use Saiyan transformations to define eras, Humans are the baseline of stats, for all races, for all things. Because 1 in a stat = human. If your stat mod is -1-, then you have human parameters in that stat. 1 is the baseline. This includes BP and Recovery and even anger.
What? Angerless humans?
Yeah.
Humans don't have anger. They don't get some miraculous second wind that strengthens them beyond their limits when their health gets low. They aren't aliens, or demons, or gods. They're just people. The closer a human's health gets to zero, all they can do is just try harder. They gain more hit and dodge - the invisible numbers that are usually multiplied by offense, defense, speed, and BP - allowing them to strike and dodge better.
Humans are not a race that you select looking for some amazing, guaranteed endgame payoff. They are one of only two races in the entire game with literally zero automation, requiring admin approval for each and every single step they're able to take forward in ascensions. They require 'Awakenings', hidden power dormant within themselves, to even be able to have a single shot in Hell at possibly competing with the likes of a Heran, or Namekian, races that can compete with and even beat your post-Awakening strength without an Awakening at all.
To be frank with you?
This race is for the masochistic veteran that wants to handicap theirself as much as possible. This is DBR on Hard mode. Dante Must Die difficulty. I absolutely cannot recommend it any less, and no one will care that you think it should be buffed.
If you want wipe impact, this is not the race for you.
There's got to be some reason someone would want to play this race.
Yeah. Crippling depression and nihilism, maybe.
Just kidding, it has cool passives and neat tricks, atleast.
Humans are highly adaptive, able to learn and grow in ability at frankly unmatched pace. This enables them to use techniques better than anyone else. And beyond that? They are afraid of dying. This sounds almost obvious - what race isn't - but within the human genome is the survival instinct that allows them to pull off surprisingly effective 'Miracle Moves':
- Humans have increased damage using damage-dealing skills of any kind that scales up with Ascension Tier.
- Humans have lowered cooldown on Zanzoken, Afterimage Strike, Rush, Wild Sense, Reverse Dash, and Dragon Dash that scales up with Ascension Tier.
- Humans have slightly lowered RPP costs on the skill tree.
- Humans have a resource called 'desperation' that they can utilize to pull off what's called a 'Miracle Move.' They gain desperation the longer a fight goes on. More on those later.
- Humans power up faster and have a higher powerup soft cap even factoring for recov and energy. This scales with ascension tier.
Human is a skill-based race, testing your game knowledge and mechanical mastery and rewarding you with nothing in return. They are required to be played perfectly just to even have the slightest chance at beating other races, and they don't really outscale anything, ultimately, in the end.
Whereas Super Saiyan forms, and the forms of almost every other race in general, provide massive battle power increases, Human forms...are a little different.
Making it really damn easy for it to feel even more impossible to win.
But atleast you make for really good comedic relief!
It's starting to sound like there's actually no point to this race.
Now you're getting it!
But if you still haven't given up hope, they do have a trump, as far away as it may seem...
High Tension.
High Tension is a form that has by far the most severe drawbacks in all of DBR. First and foremost, it puts you on a timer to win, having both health drain and accumulating fatigue. Next, it neuters external healing almost entirely, meaning others, abilities, weapons, and skills can't help you regenerate any of your lost health. You take a percentage of injuries just for turning it on. Oh, and if all of this wasn't enough, it has the most significant recovery cut out of any other transformation.
But it massively amplifies your power.
High Tension forms are game-changers, allowing humans to contest things vastly stronger than they themselves, but are easily played around. They amplify everything that makes a human human, allowing for even more powerful desperation moves and effects, but severely harm the user to even activate, and even moreso to sustain. And even with all of this being said, they are notably weaker than the Super Saiyan forms - they merely close the gap quite a bit.
And they have a lot of cool ass passives.
So how do they stack up against other races, with all of this stuff?
Humans are a joke. A very cool joke. In a straight fight, they lose to virtually everything. Their win condition is to outplay the opponent.
Simple.
Even after all this, I want to play a human.
Ok.
What's my progression like? What are the mechanics like?
Take out a pen and paper - this is a lot more complicated than Saiyans.
Okay, lets start from the beginning. You're a
Desperation accumulates as you get beaten on and take damage, and can be used to execute miracle moves, (usually) skill-based fight changers. It's a number, beginning at 0 and capping out at 250. You lose desperation out of combat.
The very first Miracle Move you have at the outset is Survive.
Survive is a verb that makes it so that if a human was going to be KOed by an attack, they'll survive it with 1% HP, and, additionally, their next attack cannot miss. Period. No matter what it is. It cannot be deflected. It consumes all Desperation to use, and has a massive cooldown.
It's not that great. You learn a series of better ones as you ascend. Ascensions, as stated earlier, are all Admin-approved, there is no shortcutting this race. It's bad to reincarnate into, or to make mid-late wipe, flatout. You'd have to acquire each ascension one by one, whereas almost everything else is automatically unlocked for every other race. Every ascension after the first give stats, BP, energy, recovery, the works. They make you a less god-awful race.
You'll need an Awakening, as well, to be strong. Awakenings are the replacement for the 'Tier S' system that older versions are so renowned for, and are now only accessible by Humans, Spirit Dolls, Tsufurujin, Aliens, and certain brands of Demigod. Things like the Sharingan, or Haki. These automatically tier-up at BP requirements, but also have some roadblocks that are admin-gated along the way. More on Awakenings and each individual one will come later, in other guides.
Sometime long before Super Saiyan but not too close to the very beginning of the wipe, you'll ascend for the first time. However, it gives you no stats...or BP. At all. Infact, all you're getting is a verb called 'Psyche Up.'
Psyche Up raises your Tension, yet another resource that you have, that is not Desperation. Hitting the Psyche Up verb raises your tension, and then goes on cooldown. Tension, like Desperation, lowers when not in combat. Raising your Tension initially seems to do nothing...but when you reach 50 Tension, you enter a state called the 'Third Eye'. Near the beginning of a wipe, everyone chooses a specialization(the replacement for body sizes - don't worry, there'll be more on that later.) These specializations raise/lower stats based on whether or not you'd like to be a hard-hitter, a more technical fighter, etc and so on. Well, when a Human enters the 'Third Eye' state at 50 tension?
They gain stats based on mitigating and eliminating their weaknesses. So a human who chose to specialize in physical strength will gain more offense, defense, and speed. A human who chose to specialize in being flighty will hit harder. This is only at above 50 Tension - if you drop below that, you lose these boons.
Now you know how to use your Miracle Moves, your Desperation, and manage your Tension with Psych Up. You also know you'll need an Awakening if you want to compete with non-Awakening races. What else?
You need Tension to enter High Tension. 100 Tension is the bare minimum required to enter High Tension, but this is once you unlock it - yet another admin approval. This means even once you do have High Tension unlocked, you can't just kick a fight off in High Tension. You have to ramp up to it.
But I mean, come the hell on.
Isn't that cool as shit?
So, by this point, you basically know all there is to know about the Human Race. They have all the disadvantages in the world, require a lot of finesse to be used properly, and even if you're crazy enough to stick with it, require a bajillion admin approvals and a lot of game knowledge. I guess, if you're fucking insane, this could somehow be seen as worth it.
Me, personally though? I wouldn't play this race.
Stick around if you want to see the IC guide for humans!
Until next time.
